Favorite Media
Bleh, this is what I'm into at time of writing.
Some of it will probably change, some of it will not (vague enough?)
Electronic:
-
memepool - random links
posted weekly, some funny, some informative
-
slashdot - tech news, new
gadgets, privacy and rights issues
-
metafilter - like
memepool, but much higher volume (10+ daily) - ranges from weird to funny to
disturbing to political (left-leaning)
Audio:
If you don't have
Audioscrobbler
yet, I highly reccomend it. It's a music-player-plugin that keeps track of the
music you listen to and can match you with other users who have similar taste in
music.
Check out the music I listen to here. I also like to make mix tapes and CDs
- see
the ones I've done on
Art Of the Mix.
Printed word:
- Ishmael, My Ishmael, Story of B
by Daniel Quinn - these books have changed the way I view the world and my
place in it.
- Illusions by Richard Bach - the closes
thing I have to a personal Bible.
- American Gods, the Sandman comic
series (graphic novels) and other novels by Neil Gaiman - my favorite author of all time, he
has such an encompassing scope and timeless storytelling ability. An
inspiration in my own endeavors.
- Ender's Game and series by Orson Scott
Card
- Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and
series, the Dirk Gently series, et al by
Douglas Adams
- Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon, and
The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson
- others worthy of mention: Harry Potter
by J.K. Rowling, Michael Crichton, Dune by Frank Herbert,
Microserfs by Douglas Coupland,
Et tu, babe by Mark Leyner
Moving pictures:
-
favorite movies - serious: Shawshank Redemption,
American Beauty, Magnolia, Life is Beautiful, ,
Trainspotting, Henry Fool, City of Angels (cheesy, I know), Titus, Waking Life, Chocolat,
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
-
funny: South Park,
Office Space, Scary Movie, Dude Where's My Car, Deuce Bigalow, Army of Darkness,
Zoolander, Austin Powers et cetera.
- neither/both: Chasing Amy,
Being John Malkovich, The Big Lebowski, Amelie
- I don't really watch TV except for South Park.
Sometimes I turn it on just to zone out, because really that's what most TV is
- mental chewing gum.
